How can you turn your personal or professional blog post into one people will never forget (and one that will be much easier to find on the Internet)?

Using SEO, or Search Engine Optimization is something that many first-time bloggers are not aware of. But, what are they? SEOs are the Internet's way of improving your blog (and blog posts) positing in the organic search results in your visitor's preferred search engine.

SEOs are the driving factor that brings your blog posts the attention and audience and is the way you can "speak" to Google and/or other search engines... and better yet, it's basically free advertising/promotion!

Read below to find 2 easy steps your blog should take to improve your blog post's SEO.

1. Include a primary keyphrase for your post. Paying attention to key phrases will make your writing much more clear for what your reader and a search engine wants. Writing literal blog titles. You don't want to leave your visitor searching endlessly for the right words in order to find your blog. A great way to think about how to accomplish this is by simply using the words YOU would use to search for something.

With the right SEOs incorporated into a blog's post, it could mean the difference between your blog's post being the 52nd search result and being the 1st search result.

Southwest Airlines' "Low-Cost-Fare-Fridays" Deals

A great example of this is Southwest Airlines. This airline company use to position themselves as a "low-cost carrier". But in reality, no one was searching for that! People were looking for are keywords like "cheap tickets," "low cost," or "cheap flights".

Keep in mind that the key phrases you choose should reflect what your audience is searching for. Things like these are integrated into your URL, page title, and your first paragraph - making sure to entice the reader because of the clarity and simplicity of your posts.

2. Include alternative text for images. I highly consider that each and every blog post contain alt text for images. Why does it matter? Because alt text was established as a design strategy that was (and still is) to be able to describe images to a site's visitors who do not have the ability to see them and may use screen readers.

In addition to this, according to ravenrools.com, "Google Images search gets well over 1 billion page views a day." This means that the images you choose to include in your blogs, that have optimized alt text, to be more likely to show up in your visitor's search engine query.

In order to create the best possible alt text that gets your visitor to your blog, there are steps within this step that need to be on your radar.

  1. Try to stay in a 50-100 character zone.

  2. Make sure you provide alt tags to every single image you choose to upload.

  3. Write literally. Make sure you describe an image the way you would talk to someone.

  4. Properly give attribution to the creator of the image (in other words, check for copyright usage rights for each photo you choose to use)

  5. Give your image the description it deserves. Highlight important keywords that you have been using (in your title; in your meta-description).

Ultimately when it comes to your blog post's SEO, it's a matter of what you see as the human and what your search engine sees. Making sure you implement these 3 steps will bring you up in your search results and bring your more readers.
